Epic First Dance at Holmewood Hall

Emily and Thomas’s vibrant winter wedding was the first on my calendar to kick start the 2024 season. The day was filled with precious, subtle moments that I loved capturing, but their extravagant first dance is one I will never forget!

Holmewood Hall is an ideal winter wedding venue and was looking stunning in the bright February morning sun. The tall windows of the south-facing ceremony room flood the room with light creating a vibrant space all year round.

Once suited and booted, Thomas and his groomsen took a stroll around the grounds to catch some fresh air and shake out any last minute nerves. The guests began to arrive, and the excitement started to build.

Their good friend Sophie led the beautiful and personal ceremony in front of all their closest family and friends who didn’t hold back their cheers and laughs.

Thankfully the sun held out for us so we were able to capture some gorgeous photos of all the guests on the croquet lawn. You’ll notice there are no confetti photos here, where there usually would be. Emily and Thomas wanted to save that epic moment for their first dance, stay tuned...

The speeches from Thomas, his brother Sam and Father of the Bride, John, did not disappoint. I also managed to capture a one in a million photo of the exact moment John shattered his champagne glass whilst trying to get everyone’s attention.

Now we’ve come to the part of the blog you’ve all been waiting for and I promise it will not disappoint. After cutting the cake under the grand stairway of the historic Hall; Emily and Thomas took to the dance floor beneath all their family friends who were waiting with fists full of confetti, eagerly awaiting their signal. What followed next, I will never forget…

The funky dancing continued late into the night!

It was such a pleasure to capture Emily and Thomas’s special day at Holmewood Hall and they were so fun to work with. They had these kind words to share after receiving their full gallery:

We knew we were onto a winner from our first zoom chat with Alex with the feeling being further cemented when we met in person. It was obvious we were on the same wavelength for how we wanted to approach the day and, from sharing our ideas to Alex’s guidance we went into the wedding having one less thing to worry about.

Neither of us are particularly comfortable in-front of the camera and wanted to avoid staged weddings photos. Alex’s style made us feel really at ease and something that we were feeling nervous about was actually heaps of fun and we couldn’t be happier with the results. Alex’s easy going nature meant he seamlessly blended into the day, the results speak for themselves with relaxed, joyous and smashingly timed candid photos.

He really went above and beyond with a surprise on the day and a rapid drop of sneak peak photos the next day. Getting to share his work and relieve the day is a novelty that won’t ware off, thank you so much!
