My 7-Step Wedding Photography Journey
If you’re wondering what it’s like to work with me, then you’re in the right place.
Choosing a wedding photographer isn’t just about finding someone who takes beautiful photos. It’s about placing your trust in someone who will be right there with you through one of the most important days of your life - someone who understands your vision, your energy, and your people. My approach to wedding photography is relaxed, friendly, and centred around real moments. No awkward posing. No pressure. Just natural images that feel like you and an experience that lets you be fully present on the day. Here’s what the journey looks like from start to finish.
Step 1:
Get in Touch
It all begins with a friendly hello. Fill in my contact form and tell me a little about your plans - the date, the venue, what you’re most excited about, and anything that makes your wedding uniquely yours. I’ll check availability and reply with some available time slots for an enquiry call - weekday evenings usually work best for me, so maybe have a few in mind when you get in touch.
Step 2:
Discovery Call
I often find a video call is the best way to suss out if I’m the right photographer for you. There’s absolutely no pressure - it’s simply a relaxed chat where you can ask anything you like and we can talk through your plans in more detail. We’ll chat about what’s most important to you, the feel and flow of your day, and the parts you’re most excited about. It’s also a great chance for you to get a sense of my approach and personality. By the end of the call, you’ll have a clear idea of whether we’re a great fit, and you’ll leave away knowing exactly what to expect if you decide to book.
Step 3:
Secure the Date
If you do decide we’re a great match (yay!) the next step is to secure your date. Booking is simple - just review and sign the contract and send the £250 booking fee. Once that’s received, I’ll follow up with a booking confirmation and we’re officially all set; you can happily tick “book photographer” off the to-do-list!
Step 4:
Staying Connected
From the moment you book, I’m here throughout your planning journey. Need timeline advice? Looking for recommended suppliers? Want to chat about locations or timings around sunset? I’m always just an email or message away. I also love getting to know my couples in a more authentic way - whether that’s a dog walk, a pint at their favourite pub, or a showdown at the board game café. These little moments will help you feel comfortable with me and give me an insight into what makes your relationship, and your day, unique.
But, if you want the best possible introduction to working together, then a pre-wedding photoshoot is the perfect next step…
Step 5:
Pre-Wedding Photoshoot
This optional shoot is a brilliant way to get comfortable in front of the camera, see how I work, and capture some beautiful, relaxed portraits before your wedding day. While Cambridge is one of my favourite locations - with charming cobblestone streets, stunning college views across the river, and spots on Coe Fen that feel far away in the countryside - we could really go anywhere. Whether it’s discovering somewhere new together or revisiting a place that’s meaningful to you both, the session is all about capturing your personality and story.
Most couples tell me afterward that it helps them feel far more confident on their big day, and the photos often make perfect invitations, save-the-dates, or guest book prints.
Step 6:
Wedding Photography Planning Session
Around 2–4 weeks before your wedding, we’ll go through the final plans in more detail. I’m fully aware that there are a hundred moving pieces to some weddings, so my focus is on what’s important for me to do my job without overcomplicating things for you or your other suppliers. We’ll cover the timeline and logistics, your group photo list, and any special priorities or surprises I need to be ready for.
And just a reminder: I’m not strict on timings - I believe in going with the flow of the day and capturing moments as they naturally unfold. This ensures you can fully relax and enjoy your wedding, confident that everything is beautifully organised and that your photos will tell the story of your day exactly as it happens.
Step 7:
The Wedding Day
This is where the fun really begins! I’ll be there capturing the story exactly as it unfolds - the excitement, the details, the nervous laughs, the real moments, the people you love most. Most of the time I blend in and photograph candidly, but I’ll step in and help when needed (for example, organising group photos quickly so you can get back to celebrating).
My goal is simple: you have the best day ever, I’ll make sure you remember it! I can’t wait to share all the fleeting moments that you didn’t even realise too.
Step 8: Your Photos & Final Delivery
The celebration doesn’t stop when the day ends! I’ll send over a sneak peek gallery within 24 hours so you can relive the best moments and share them straight away. Your full gallery will arrive within 6 weeks, beautifully edited and ready to download, print, and share with friends and family.
If you’d like a handcrafted wedding album, we’ll design something completely unique to you. It’ll be filled with your favourite photos, telling the story of your day chapter by chapter. You can even include personal touches like your vows, memorable lines from speeches, or lyrics from your first dance. The result is a timeless keepsake that you’ll be proud to show off and revisit for years to come.
And that’s the journey…
From first enquiry to final gallery, my goal is to make your experience simple, enjoyable and completely stress-free, so you can focus on what matters most: celebrating your love with your favourite people. If this sounds like what you’re looking for, I’d love to chat about your plans.
